Run/Walk GreenLake with daughter.

Even though Cassandra’s cold is worse than mine she wanted to get outside and run around GreenLake while the weather was nice and also she hasn’t been running and we have comitted to the Jingle Bell Run on Dec 9th.  Of course she kicked my but after taunting me with “getting old mom?” and then sprinting ahead.  We did end up walking the last 200 yards or so but we had fun with the “fartlek” stuff.

Final weekend run with Steve before the 1/2 marathon in LV next weekend.  It was another gorgeous day when the sun broke through the fog layers…but cold!  We started out a bit fast (for me) but I wanted to push the speed a little as I’m feeling so slow compared to everyone else.  I know I shouldn’t do that but that damn ego of mine does get in the way sometimes.  It felt good to  push myself and suffer a little.  I think that DayQuil I took earlier for my cold helped a little ???  Poor Steve had to listen to my congestion and hacking most of the way until I finally started to slow down and he got stronger and pushed the tempo finishing strong at the end.

Las Vegas here we come!! :-)

In-Cycle Class.  Caught daughter’s cold and sore throat.  I got to class 30 minutes early so pedaled in zone 1 & 2 until class started. I had already sweated out and drank a bottle of water and then spent another 20 minutes in zone 2 as a warmup with the rest of the class.  Workout was:

Ladders (z2 x 3min, z3 x 3min, z4 x 3min, z3 x 3 min,….2-3 min recoveries)  I stayed at the low end of my zones and the dreaded “Spin-Monies” until the cool down for 20 minutes.

This was the last day of our recovery week but I will take it easy next week also since I will be tapering for the 1/2 marathon on Sun Dec 2.

In-Cycle class.  Still in recovery week which is a good thing as the attempt to run earlier left me feeling a bit worried about handling the class today.  I stopped and fueled up with some gator ade and fig newtons.  I then felt a ton better and was strong on the bike.

Those “Spin-Monies” kick my butt though.  (6×30 sec at max contrallable speed with 1:30 min recoveries)

I was all ready to do some interval work today with Scott but            I had “zero” ability today.    I tried warming up and then doing a couple of pick ups but ended up just sucking wind.  Its a good thing Scott just wanted an easy workout before his 1st 10K the following day.

Out and back run from MI to Leschi.   Legs felt unbelievably good after a day of rest on Sunday.   Hips and hamstrings were sore and tight after Saturdays run and then the 2 hours sitting in the cold at a soccer game pretty much paralyzed them.  I broke down and took a couple of Aleve and they worked like magic!

Final long run before the 1/2 in LV.     I started out about 5-10 minutes ahead of Steve and Lisa so they wouldn’t have to wait so long for me at the end which worked out nice.  They caught up and passed me about mile 5.5 but I was feeling pretty good.  Beautiful morning, fresh legs, breathing easy….nice!  Mile 8 my hamstrings started getting tight and by mile 9 I was starting to panic…still really afraid of getting hurt and being sidelined again.  Stopped to walk and stretch and after about a mile I felt fine ……finished the run feeling good and very greatful for Lisa and Steve for their comaraderie, positive attitude and sharing  their passion for fitness with me.   Its made all the difference in the world to have them as running partners.

I was hoping that Scott would run with me today as I wasnt feeling very motivated.  Ended up running by myself and once I started it felt good.  Unfortunately about mile 2 I got a bloody nose that wouldn’t stop.  Ended up walking most of the way back.  Its that time of year to get the humidifier working again.
